Application Approval Process Heading link

To allow sufficient time for review and approval, applications for new or renewal activities must be submitted 60–90 days before the scheduled activity.

Submission and Review Process:

All applications (proposals) must undergo the standard CME application process, which includes multiple levels of review before final approval:

Step 1 – Initial Submission and CME Coordinator Review:
The CME Coordinator reviews the proposal upon submission to ensure all required information is included. If revisions are needed, the submitting parties will be contacted before further review.

Step 2 – Peoria Committee on CME Review:
Once prepared, the proposal is reviewed by the Peoria Committee on CME for initial evaluation.

If any revisions are required, they must be addressed before moving to the next stage.

Step 3 – Executive Committee on CME Review & Final Approval:
Approved proposals from the Peoria Committee are forwarded to the U of I Executive CME Committee for final review and approval.

Activities scheduled after the U of I Executive CME Approval Meeting date may be eligible for CME credit if fully approved.

If revisions are needed at any stage, the submitting parties will be notified before the proposal moves forward for further review and approval.

Important Notes:
Final Submission Deadlines are the latest possible dates to submit a proposal for review.

Proposals submitted after the 60-day minimum deadline may not be reviewed if they are incomplete or require revisions.

Late submissions risk being deferred to the next available meeting, which may impact CME eligibility.

Activity Submission Example:
For an activity scheduled after the August 7, 2025, U of I Executive Committee Meeting, the latest submission deadline is June 11, 2025, to comply with the 60-day minimum submission requirement.

CME activity is classified as RSS (Regularly Scheduled Series) or Episodic.

RSS Activities are defined by the ACCME as a series of multiple sessions that occur weekly, monthly, or quarterly. RSS activities include Case Conferences, Grand Rounds, Journal Clubs, Morbidity & Mortality Rounds, Tumor Boards, or any other type of regularly scheduled educational meeting formatted with a consistent theme (e.g. patient safety rounds, research rounds).

Episodic Activities are defined by the ACCME as a live CME activity where learners participate in person, and usually planned as an individual event. Some courses are held multiple times with multiple audiences. Episodic Activities include: Courses, Enduring Material, Internet CME, Performance Improvement CME (PI-CME) and Learning Associated with Teaching (LAT).
