Continuity clinics

Located at OSFMG Lung and Pulmonology, it is less than 5 blocks from the medical center campus. Each fellow is assigned one half-day clinic per week on either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoon. This is the site of our main physician practice and is staffed by our same faculty members.

General call structure

There is hospital coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Sunday through Thursday there is a night float system covered by all fellows. The weekends are covered by 2 fellows, a day and night fellow. Fellow responsibilities include supervising MICU residents, performing procedures and taking consults for the pulmonary service.

Didactics and Conferences Heading link

A schedule overview for didactics and conferences.

Fellow’s Case Conference

Presented by 1st year fellows, one Tuesday per month. You are to present an interesting case, and teaching points, guidelines, or evidence-based content. The first two months you will be supervised by the 2nd year fellows so that they can help you with the format and content. In general, you should review:

  • Case presentation
  • Imaging and Results
  • Interesting learning points, controversial decisions, new studies, guidelines

Journal Club

Journal Club is presented by the fellow on Pulmonary Consults. You will typically review two recent journal articles. Ideally the topics will be related to each other. The resident(s) on the consult service should be participating in Journal Club with you. The articles are sent out to the faculty and fellows approximately 1 week in advance. You will give a short overview of the articles and be well-versed on the article for discussion and questions. This is often also attended by pharmacy, and advanced practice providers to facilitate a well-rounded multi-disciplinary discussion.

M&M Conference

You should complete an M & M yearly. This will occur during one of the Tuesday Conferences. This should be done with an attending and is expected to be a much more detailed review of the case, decision-making, and patient outcome and complications. Guest speaker, consultant, and pathologist input is welcome!

ICC RT Lectures

Each year the fellows give lectures on pulmonary topics to the respiratory therapy students at ICC (Illinois Central College). This is a nice opportunity to share our knowledge and expertise with other members of the healthcare community and is always well-received by the students.
