Family Medicine Residency – Bloomington

OSF St. Joseph

Welcome From the Program Director Heading link

Greetings! Welcome to our residency training program in Family Medicine in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, which will train six residents each year for our 3-year program. Recently accredited by the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) in November 2022, the program aims to bring high-quality community-based education to this area and help meet the needs of outstanding family medicine physicians to improve the access and delivery of care in caring for our patients and their families. The program is sponsored by the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP), ensuring resources are available to the program. I have been a family medicine physician and involved in medical education for well over two decades. I joined OSF HealthCare in February 2022 to spearhead the effort to create a program of this caliber in our area! The residency is also being formed in strong collaboration with Chestnut Health Systems (a federally qualified health center) in Bloomington to improve and enhance healthcare access to an underserved population in its West Bloomington location, as well as provide comprehensive services to the hospital environment at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center. These community partnerships bring a teaching model to provide top-quality and highly safe care for all patients.

My philosophy is to make sure each resident gains highly competent skills in procedures while building their confidence and ability to advocate for the best care of their patients. We strive from the beginning of your training here to ensure that every resident feels a great sense of independence in the decisions for the patient while having a strong guiding hand from the faculty.

There has been excellent support from physicians in the community and their enthusiasm is greatly appreciated as we train the next generation of physicians! The program is planning to take medical school graduates for the upcoming academic year commencing in July 2023 for training as we look toward OSF St. Joseph to solidify its role as a teaching hospital and strive to provide top-notch health care outcomes to the community it serves.

Cordially,
