Greetings! Welcome to our Family Medicine Residency Program in Bloomington, Illinois. We are proud to train six residents per year in our three-year residency program at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Accredited by the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) in 2022, our program provides high-quality, community-based medical education while addressing the growing need for outstanding family physicians. Our mission is to improve access to care and enhance the delivery of healthcare for our patients and their families.
The program is sponsored by the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, ensuring access to extensive educational resources that support our residents’ success. These resources include library services, research support, educational tools, and access to the Jump Simulation Center.
As Program Director, I have been a family physician involved in medical education for more than two decades. I was honored to help spearhead the development of this exciting program and bring a residency of this caliber to our community. The residency was established through a strong partnership with Chestnut Health Systems in Bloomington, with the goal of improving healthcare access for underserved populations at its West Bloomington location. In addition, our residents provide comprehensive care within the hospital setting at St. Joseph Medical Center while participating in a teaching model that promotes high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care for individuals of all ages.
From the beginning of training, we strive to foster a strong sense of independence in our residents’ clinical decision-making while providing consistent guidance and mentorship from our faculty. My philosophy is to ensure that each resident develops exceptional clinical and procedural skills while building the confidence needed to advocate for the best possible care for their patients.

We are grateful for the tremendous support we receive from physicians throughout the community. Their enthusiasm and commitment play an important role in helping us train the next generation of family physicians. Our program accepts applications through ERAS for each upcoming academic year.
