When searching for a residency program, I wanted to find a program that would challenge me to become the best physician that I could be and provide me with a productive learning environment to grow into whatever pediatric specialty I will choose. More importantly though, I also wanted a program that cared about me as more than just a resident, but also as an individual person. A program where my colleagues would become my close friends, and this is what I found at OSF CHOI and more. The curriculum at CHOI is one that provides immense amount of learning opportunities, but also allows me to enjoy/have fun with this part of my journey. My attendings and senior residents encourage and challenge me to broaden my knowledge and develop skills pertinent to my future as a pediatric physician. I learn about the importance of advocating for my patients in addition to watching my attendings advocate and provide wellness opportunities for myself and other residents. In addition, the town of Peoria itself is one that is very community driven and welcoming to those moving into town. Almost every activity you could desire to do, can be found somewhere around town! 🙂

I am incredibly grateful to be at this residency program! From the moment I interviewed here I could tell how friendly, sincere, and supportive the faculty and residents were, which was very important to me. This has continued to be my experience since starting residency and the positive atmosphere has only enhanced my learning experiences!

Choosing the University of Illinois at Peoria was one of the best decisions I ever made. When I was looking for a residency program, I wanted one that would treat me as an individual learner, provide great mentorship from faculty and senior residents, prepare me for life after residency, and foster a warm, supportive educational environment. The leadership continues to advocate for our wellness and always seeks and listens to feedback on ways to improve our rotations, board preparation, and overall residency experience. The state-of-the-art JUMP Simulation Center provides the opportunity to develop teamwork, practice codes, and perform research. Additionally, Peoria is a great, affordable town to live in, with plenty of excellent restaurants, music venues, and local festivals. I love hiking, lifting weights, and running during my free time, and I have found that Peoria offers plenty of beautiful hiking trails, community parks, and a free membership to the YMCA as a resident. Peoria is also uniquely located close to major cities such as St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Chicago, providing plenty of great travel opportunities during a weekend off as well as allowing me to care for a diverse patient population and see a wide variety of unique cases.
