Scholarly Experience

The Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requires that all training programs meet standards in the area of scholarship. Our program has designed and implemented a user-friendly scholarship program that has been shown to be effective in providing a pathway to scholarly participation and productivity. The program casts a wide net over residents and faculty who might endeavor to engage in the scholarship of discovery, the scholarship of integration, the scholarship of teaching, and the scholarship of application.

The four core elements include completion of an online human subjects course, participation in scholarship retreats, production of a scholarly product, and presentation of departmental grand rounds.

The program has been designed to be flexible so residents can pursue any of a variety of scholarly interests. A scholarship director serves to review products, helps to coordinate the annual scholarship retreat, and plans scholarship activities for the program. Residents communicate with the coordinator and the scholarship director regarding progress toward completion of scholarship requirements.
