Independent IR/DR Residency
Small program in a large department
The Independent IR/DR residency program is entirely conducted at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, a 629 bed adult hospital and a 136 bed attached children’s hospital. Both serve as community hospitals for the 350,000 Peoria metropolitan area and tertiary referral hospital and level I trauma center for 26 counties in north central Illinois with a population of 2.25 million. The program has six full-time IR faculty with 24/7 coverage.
The program is small by design with only two residents per year, but in a large, high volume (more than 17,000 IR procedures) department. The clinical experience is complete with all levels of complexity, acuity, and variety of procedures/clinical conditions treated in today’s IR department. The support for the IR department from the University and Medical Center is outstanding with state-of-the-art facilities, including equipment, personnel, and space.

Two residents are accepted each year for our program. We anticipate most of our IR/DR residents will enter our Independent IR/DR program from our Diagnostic Radiology residency as part of the Early Specialization in IR (ESIR) program. If we have only one or none of our Diagnostic Radiology residents enter into our ESIR program, we will recruit one or two residents who previously completed ESIR in their PGY 5 year at another program.
Please refer to ERAS for application instructions and find match dates from the National Resident Matching Program.
Applicants are selected and notified of interview dates. Interviews will be conducted virtually.
