Advancing Breast Imaging Expertise
The Department of Radiology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine offers a prestigious one-year fellowship in Breast Imaging. As part of this program, fellows will train at the renowned OSF Saint Francis Center for Breast Health, previously known as the Susan G. Komen Breast Center.
Our Breast Imaging Fellowship Program provides comprehensive exposure to all facets of Breast Imaging and Interventions, including breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and various interventional procedures. Fellows will gain proficiency in stereotactic core biopsy, ultrasound-guided core biopsy, cyst aspiration, fine needle aspiration, ductography, and wire localizations for surgical resection.
Throughout the fellowship, fellows will actively participate in diverse clinical conferences, fostering valuable learning and collaboration. They will also have the opportunity to closely collaborate with the esteemed members of the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center's multidisciplinary team. This includes breast surgeons, plastic surgeons, pathologists, medical and radiation oncologists, and breast nurse navigators. Fellows are encouraged to engage in clinical research projects, further enriching their experience and contributing to the advancement of breast imaging knowledge.

The fellowship is through the University of Illinois College of Medicine, the OSF Saint Francis Center for Breast Health, and OSF HealthCare St. Francis Medical Center, a 600+ bed Level I Trauma Center. It is staffed by five Breast Imaging Radiologists and a dedicated group of technologists and clerical staff. Additionally, there are three dedicated Nurse Navigators and a genetics specialist who runs the High Risk Assessment Program.
The Center for Breast Health has earned the ACR Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence (BICOE) accreditation. The Center is accredited by the National Accreditation Program of Breast Centers (NAPBC) and was one of the first four programs in the country to receive full accreditation.

The one-year fellowship accepts one fellow per year. Interested applicants should send an application (.docx, 22KB), CV, personal statement, 3 letters of recommendation (one must be from your program director), USMLE transcript, and board results.
Our program participates in the Breast Imaging Fellowship Match, sponsored by the Society of Breast Imaging and managed by the National Resident Matching Program. In order to become a fellow at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, you must register with the Radiology Match, of which Breast Imaging is a part. Please visit the National Resident Matching Program for dates. We will be conducting virtual interviews this season.
