UICOMP Seeking Full-Time Senior Research Specialist

The Dept of Cancer Biology and Pharmacology at the Univeristy of IL College of Medicine Peoria, located in a mid-size metropolitan area, is seeking a full-time Senior Research Specialist to assist the dept. with the following responsibilities:

Under direction and supervision, assist department with cell culture work, which includes changing media, passaging cells, and in-vitro assays (cell proliferation, apoptosis, cell counting); Develop specific research project requirements and oversee all aspects of some research projects, from development through delivery; Conduct DNA/RNA extraction, reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), plasmid transfections, and perform Western blot analysis and microscope imaging; During animal studies, assist with cell transplantation into mouse brain, mouse breeding, and colony maintenance; Study cancer stem cells mitochondrial isolation and transfer and conduct stereotaxic surgeries; Collect and analyze data, and may publish and present scientific research findings and may assist with the preparation and submission of grants; Perform other duties as applicable.

No travel is required for this position. This position minimally requires a Bachelor's degree or its foreign equivalent in Molecular Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related field of study and 5 yrs of related scientific research experience.
