About

Dr. Wynn joined the faculty in May 2007 after spending the previous fifteen years practicing the full spectrum of family medicine in rural North Central North Carolina. He practiced medicine at federally qualified community health centers for seven years before joining a private group practice for eight years. Dr. Wynn was named residency program director in 2011, a role in which he served for 6 ½ years before being named Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Dr. Wynn was born in the Bronx borough of New York City where he spent the first three years of his life before his family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he grew up. He received his BS in zoology from North Dakota State University where he was a member of the varsity basketball team for four years. He was awarded his MD from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and completed his family medicine residency training at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Wynn is a member of the American and Illinois Academies of Family Physicians. He was named Illinois Academy of Family Physicians Teacher of the Year in 2009. He enjoys practicing the full spectrum of family medicine. The opportunity to teach residents and students all aspects of family medicine gives him meaning and pleasure.

Dr. Wynn and his wife, Shari, live in Peoria. His outside interests include visiting different college and university campuses to collect sweatshirts (his wife says he has over 150!), sports trivia, and reading murder mystery novels.

Being part of a culture where faculty, residents, and staff have each other’s best interest in mind is my favorite aspect of our program because it has created an environment where our skills are developed and nurtured, and enduring relationships are built.
