Family Medicine Residency

About

I was born and raised in Pakistan, and went to medical school back home at Ziauddin Medical College.

The concept of Family Medicine is quite foreign in third world countries. I didn’t realize my love, passion and appreciation for family medicine till I started working at one of the biggest non-profit hospital primary care programs in Pakistan. Whether it is supporting and relieving a terminally ill patient at the end of life, providing urgent care to a high acuity patient in the emergency room, or performing routine screening physicals and preventive care in the clinic, I admire that Family Medicine is a specialty of breadth, provides continuity of care, requires knowledge of all medical and surgical subspecialties, and values and nurtures the needs of the community.

I moved to Peoria last year when my husband matched at UICOMP in Internal Medicine, and started working at Jump Simulation as a Simulation Research Coordinator. I had heard nothing but fantastic things about the program (university and community based), its faculty and their open door policy, hands on learning, full spectrum curriculum, and their goal of ‘whole patient care’. This program has impressed me every day and I’m proud of call it home. I am confident that my training at UICOMP Family Medicine Residency will make me a more compassionate and empathetic physician with a vast skillset.

I spend time with my husband and our friends when I am not working. We love dining out, travelling, working out and watching shows and movies on a lazy night.
