Family Medicine Residency

About

I was born and raised in Nigeria. Attended my early education in various states across the country (Lagos, Benin, Abia and Abuja) owing from the fact that my family moved around quite often. I received my medical degree from International American University and further did my clinical rotation across different states in the US.

My interest to pursue a career in medicine started at a later age as I experienced first-hand the disparity in healthcare in rural & urban communities. I chose family medicine because it gives me the opportunity to develop meaningful relationship with families, instilling hope and providing comfort while offering individualized care plans that foster treatment compliance.

My decision to pursue family medicine became more apparent and greatly influenced during my clinical rotation after experiencing its broad scope. I firmly understood the practicality involved, as the central focus goes beyond just treatment of medical diagnosis but on the whole care of a patient. Dr William Osler’s quote embodies family medicine and I completely agree. He said, “The good physician treats the diseases; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease.”

I am thrilled to be a part of the UICOMP Family Medicine program because it offers inclusive diversity and equity that fosters a desirable environment for acquisition of knowledge of evidence-based medicine and a solid foundation in patient care based on compassion and empathy. UICOMP is invested in the wellness of residents, faculties and families with scheduled wellness activities that promotes overall well-being. In UICOMP, we practice what we teach.

I never knew that I’ll find a place away from my family that would still feel like home. Prior to moving down to Peoria, I lived with my family in California and in my less busy days, you will catch me engaging in any of these activities; cycling, travelling (if you didn’t already know), playing tennis, board games, just chilling or watching a movie and of recent picked up a new hobby, playing pickle ball (courtesy of Peoria, lol!). I mostly love engaging in activities that bring family and friends together, as I am happiest when I am spending quality time with friends and family.
