Family Medicine Residency

About

My journey has taken me across several regions and continents. Born and raised in Jamaica, I emigrated to the United States as a teen, completed my undergraduate studies at Western Connecticut State University, and received my medical degree from Saint James School of Medicine, St. Vincent. I enjoy travel and fully embrace diversity and cultures. I had the privilege of witnessing medical disparities in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa on a student delegation. Spoke on and was educated about the healthcare challenges faced in parts of the Caribbean and South America. In addition, had the opportunity to visit and build strong networks with junior physicians who studied and trained in Eastern Europe. Witnessing the disproportions in health and wellness among various groups and the challenges encountered in providing equitable healthcare prompted my pursuit of a Master of Science in Health Education and Promotion.

I am enthusiastic about continued training with UICOM-Peoria’s Family Medicine Residency. The focus placed on the practice of evidence based preventative medicine, health equity, and providing quality care within diverse and underserved communities are visions that have and continue to resonate with me.

Spending time with my family and friends, exploring new territories, enjoying good food, and the occasional beach trip are pastimes that I strongly value.
