About
Janice Tamplin oversees the University of Illinois College of Medicine Urban Health Program (COM-UHP) Medical Student Development Program at the Peoria campus. She develops and implements comprehensive academic success initiatives that support medical students throughout their educational journey, with an emphasis on academic excellence, professional development, leadership, mentoring, and preparation for residency.
Working collaboratively with the Offices of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Medical Education, and campus leadership, Ms. Tamplin designs and coordinates programs that promote student achievement, academic readiness, wellness, and career development. She provides individualized coaching, develops academic support resources, facilitates enrichment programming, and oversees initiatives that strengthen peer mentoring, tutoring, and board preparation. As a member of the Student Success Team and several college-wide committees, she contributes to policies and initiatives that enhance the medical student learning environment and supports continuous program evaluation to improve student outcomes.
Prior to joining COM-UHP, Ms. Tamplin served as Associate Director of Adult Transition Services at Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois. She also held leadership roles at the University of Texas at Arlington as an Educational Specialist IV and Associate Director of Student Support Services (SOAR), where she developed and implemented academic support programs designed to improve student retention, persistence, and graduation.
A native of Peoria, Illinois, Ms. Tamplin earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and a Master of Science in Counselor Education from Illinois State University. Her professional interests include academic coaching, student development, mentoring, college navigation, and designing innovative programs that promote student success in medical education.
