About

Dr. David Crawford received his undergraduate degree from Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana, and received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, Kentucky. He completed a Surgical Internship and General Surgery Residency at the Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania. Dr. Crawford completed a Minimal Invasive Surgery Fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Crawford is board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Crawford applies his minimally invasive training to the majority of his practice when the disease process allows. Diseases of the esophagus and stomach make up over half of his practice. These include GERD/acid reflux, motility disorders of the esophagus, hiatal hernias and benign disease. Dr. Crawford has extensive experience in hernia, adrenal gland and spleen surgery.

His area of special expertise and interest is robotic surgery. Dr. Crawford has over 17 years of experience with the da Vinci surgical system, beginning in 2002, when Peoria Surgical Group was the first private practice group in the nation to purchase the device. He has performed over 1,000 cases with the robot. He has published several book chapters and numerous peer reviewed articles on various topics in the field of robotic surgery. He travels nationally and internationally lecturing on and teaching robotic surgery. Currently, his robotic practice includes foregut, colon, solid organ, hernia and biliary disease processes.

He is currently the Director of Robotic Surgery for OSF St. Francis Medical Center and Chief of the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP), Peoria, Illinois.

Dr. Crawford is a native of Indiana. He has three children. He is actively involved in the community. He is a staunch supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouting programs.
