About
Asim Jaffer was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. He graduated from Windsor University School of Medicine and completed his Family Medicine residency at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
In addition to being board certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Jaffer is also certified in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine and has received his Hospice Medical Director Board certification. He has a particular interest in health care advocacy at the system level as well as the state and national level.
He is currently President of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, and Chair of the AAFP FMX Advisory Board. He is a past recipient of the Tom Clark Physician of the Year award. In addition to his role with the residency, he serves as the medical director for UnityPoint Health Palliative Care and UnityPoint Health Hospice services in Peoria.
He and his wife, Naziya, live in Peoria along with their children, Kamran and Sommer. He enjoys following Chicago sports teams and trying to keep up with his kids after school activities.
The best part of being a faculty member is helping residents train as comprehensivists who treat patients and not just their diseases.
