UICOMP Students Use New VR Headsets to Interact with 3D Heart Model

First-year UICOMP students had a chance to work with a 3D heart model in virtual reality (VR) last week. UICOMP recently upgraded the VR headsets to a new wireless configuration. This was the first time UICOMP has used VR for a student learning activity. The students were able to manipulate a high-fidelity heart model, watch blood flow through the four chambers, and identify different cardiac structures. Several faculty from the Health Sciences Education and Pathology department helped guide them through the activity. Future VR sessions will complement the existing cadaver dissection labs and provide students a novel way to learn anatomy content.
