City of Peoria Recognizes UICOMP, National Latino Physician Day

The City of Peoria issued a proclamation recognizing National Latino Physician Day on October 1 and recognized UICOMP’s role in educating and training future Latino physicians. Accepting the proclamation were medical student Karina Favela (left) of the UICOMP Latino Medical Student Association and Elsa Vazquez Melendez, MD, assistant dean for diversity and inclusion. National Latino Physician Day celebrates Latino and Latina physicians in the US which represent 6 percent of the physician workforce while recognizing the shortage of Latino physicians when compared to the US Latino population (19 percent).
