Dr. Yong joined the UICOMP faculty in 2014 and has been awarded for teaching excellence for the Gastrointestinal course in 2015 and 2016. Dr. Yong was most recently recognized with an UICOMP Outstanding Teaching Award 2018-2019 by the Peoria Committee on Faculty Fellowships and Awards and was selected in 2019 by students for a Golden Apple Award (M1 Class of 2022). This Raymond B. Allen Instructorship Award, for teaching excellence, represents each class’ selection, by class vote, of an Outstanding Teacher each academic year.
Prior to joining UICOMP, Dr. Yong practiced surgical and clinical pathology at OSF St. Francis Medical Center and at Loyola University Medical Center. She also taught at Loyola’s Stritch School of Medicine and was awarded “Teacher of the Year” in 2007 by the M2 class. Dr. Yong served in the US Navy as a pathologist at the U.S Naval Hospital in Newport, Rhode Island and at Naval Air Station in Jacksonville Florida.
