About
Dr. Thomas Boyd was raised in a small town in rural Illinois. He attended Southeast Missouri State University and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in biomedical science with a minor in chemistry. He earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University before completing his psychiatry residency training here at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. He served as Chief Resident and graduated in 2020 before joining the department as an Assistant Professor.
Dr. Boyd has been an integral part of the department as the attending on an inpatient teaching unit, providing services to a variety of community clinics for developmentally disabled patients, teaching both residents and medical students, and serving on multiple committees. He was appointed the departmental Director of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) in 2023, building additional outreach services to Positive Health Solutions and Central Illinois Friend’s, where he provides psychiatric care for patients from the LGBTQ+ community and patients living with HIV. He coordinates and teaches multiple didactic courses for the residents and is involved in preclinical and clinical medical student education.
Dr. Boyd was recently promoted to Psychiatry Residency Training Program Director, and he is very excited to continue to work with the residents and faculty, and continue to help the program grow.
