Dr. Mitchell earned their doctorate from an APA-accredited clinical psychology program at the University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan in August of 2020. As part of their doctorate, they completed an APA-accredited internship at the University of Iowa. Subsequently, they worked at Illinois State University’s Student Counseling Services as a staff psychologist for three years. During that period, they served as a supervising psychologist, Practicum Coordinator, and Body Image and Eating Disorder Outreach Coordinator. In 2023, they joined Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois as the Director of Counseling and Consultation Services. In November of 2024, Dr. Mitchell joined the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine to establish advanced clinical psychology training programs within the department. They serve as the director of the Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship within the department.

Clinically, Dr. Mitchell offers evidence-based services for the community including individual therapy for adults. They accept referrals for outpatient therapy for trauma and PTSD, dissociation, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, grief, self-esteem, relationship issues, and other issues. They also provide psychological care for the LGBTQ+ community at Positive Health Solutions and Central Illinois Friends.
