Dr. Elwood is a native Peorian. He attended the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, where he earned his bachelor of arts degree in Biology. In 1991, he earned his doctorate of medicine, Cum Laude, at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia where, in 2001, he also completed a residency in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. He completed a Fellowship in Craniofacial and Pediatric Plastic Surgery in 2002 at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul, Minnesota. Dr. Elwood is board certified in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Elwood is Associate Professor of Surgery and Neurosurgery, Chief, Section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Attending Team Leader of the Plastic Surgery Service for the General Surgery Residency Program. He was the recipient of the 2005 UICOMP 'Outstanding Teaching Award'.
Dr. Elwood resides in Peoria with his wife and their two children.
