UICOMP Students Host Fifth Annual Health Disparities Forum

UICOMP Students at the Health Disparities Forum

UICOMP hosted its annual Health Disparities Forum on April 6. The campus event was hosted by the Public Health Student Interest Group and the Urban Health Program. The day’s events offered education and discussion on a wide range of topics reflective of local disparities impacting the Peoria community and the broader population. Topics ranged from cardiovascular health disparities, stigma surrounding substance abuse and street medicine, disparities in disability care as well as inclusive LGBTQ+ primary care, and more.

"Health Disparities Forum was a great reminder of the work community members are doing to help improve the entire Peoria community. It was also great to listen to the experiences of the community and incorporate lecture didactics with real life experiences," said UICOMP student Lon Hutchinson.
