UICOMP Medical Students in Urban Medicine Program Launch Mini Medical School for Fifth and Sixth Graders

Peoria medical students in the Urban Medicine Program launched Mini Medical School for fifth and sixth graders at Annie Jo Gordon Community Learning Center in Peoria. The first session held September 10 included a White Coat Ceremony. The middle school participants will learn about healthcare careers, participate in interactive lectures and fun experiments. The goal of the year-long Mini Med School is to increase the interest in healthcare careers to kids who are traditionally underrepresented in these fields. The Urban Medicine program seeks to immerse medical students in the Peoria community to see healthcare disparities firsthand.
