UICOMP Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Virtual Event Oct. 15

Unmasking the 50th

The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria will host a virtual event at 7 pm on Thursday, October 15, as part of its 50th anniversary.

Highlights include messages from University of Illinois College of Medicine Dean Mark Rosenblatt, MD; UICOMP Interim Regional Dean Meenakshy Aiyer, MD; Dr. Kent Wise, MD, and Dr. Joyce Wise, MD, both members of UICOMP’s first class. The event will be emceed by John Morris, president and CEO of the Peoria Riverfront Museum, and will include musical entertainment performed by faculty and students. The 2020 Distinguished Alumnus Winner, Pierre Johnson, MD, will be honored, and other special guests will share messages during the evening.

Initial plans to celebrate the UICOMP milestone included an in-person Gala Jubilee event, but those plans were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The University of Illinois College of Medicine was founded in 1970 as the Peoria School of Medicine. Since its founding, 2,133 students have earned their MD degrees on their path to becoming physicians. Each year, UICOMP educates and trains about 260 medical students and 300 physician residents and fellows. It is home to the Cancer Research Center, Center for Outcomes Research, and is a collaborator in Jump Simulation.
