Called “From DNA to Beer: Harnessing Nature in Medicine & Industry,” the exhibit takes a look at microbes and the role the tiny organisms have played in human history, from causing sickness or restoring health to helping produce foods and beverages. The exhibit will pay homage to the role Peoria played in the mass production of penicillin as well as highlight the role modern technology plays in teaching Peoria medical students about histology, or microscopic anatomy.

The exhibit will be on display at the University of Illinois Chicago Library of Health Sciences in Peoria, which is the University library housed at the College of Medicine’s Peoria regional campus, 1 Illini Drive, Peoria, IL 61605. The traveling banner exhibition and companion website explore some of the processes, problems and potentials inherent in technologies that use microorganisms for health and commercial purposes.
