Celebrating Women in Medicine and Science at UICOMP

In conjunction with September’s “Women in Medicine Month” created by the American Medical Association (AMA), the UICOMP Women in Medicine and Science Council (WMSC) solicited nominations of faculty members who work to support gender equality and the advancement of women in medicine.

The Council recognizes these women for recognition in 2024:

Christine Guerrini, MD – Radiology

Dr. Guerrini is a wonderful addition to the neuroradiology section where she works with our neuroradiology fellow, radiology residents, visiting residents, and medical students every day. She is commended for her dedication to teaching by our trainees, and is a great example of a team player in our practice. Dr. Guerrini is a great role model for not only our trainees, but for her colleagues as well!

Bindu Patel, MD – Obstetrics and Gynecology

Dr. Patel is dedicated in her commitment to supporting and advancing women in medicine through her work in obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatric/adolescent gynecology as a preceptor, mentor, teacher, and colleague. She is a true role model for the next generation of female physicians.

Anamika Sengupta, PhD, Med – Health Sciences Education and Pathology

Dr. Sengupta is a wonderful medical educator, receiving consistently outstanding evaluations from medical students. She is a phenomenal teacher who goes above and beyond for the students, and an active supporter of women in education. She has made tremendous contributions to UICOMP as a student advocate.

Manasa Kandula, MD – Internal Medicine

Dr. Kandula is an active member of the IM department. She is involved in mentoring students and residents and plays in active role in education. She is tireless in her work to ensure that the women she teaches and works with always have an equitable seat at the table, and that their voices are heard.

Christine Stehman, MD – Emergency Medicine

Dr. Stehman is an enthusiastic teacher, receiving high praise from learners, and regarded as a trusted mentor. She is a leader for FemInEM, a discussion group for issues facing women physicians, and a strong advocate for physician wellness. She is well versed in the science of wellness and a great example of how physicians can incorporate wellness strategies into our busy lives.

Rahmat Na’Allah, MD MPH – Family and Community Medicine

Dr. Na’Allah has a long-standing record of teaching excellence and dedication to mentorship, receiving outstanding evaluations from students and residents alike. She has dedicated her career to caring for underserved populations and decreasing health disparities especially in the area of Women’s Health, and serves as an outstanding role model for all of us.

Patrician Tran, MD – Pediatrics

Dr. Tran is a wonderful teacher, peer and mentor and an advocate for women in medicine both locally and nationally. Her skills in personal branding and desire to support physicians in projecting their best professional selves while staying true to their passions is impactful, especially for young female trainees. She is a role model for her inclusive communication style and commitment to amplifying diverse voices.
