Residency/Clerkship
Peoria is a regional campus of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, the largest and among the most ethnically diverse public medical schools in the U.S. Beginning in 2022, the OB/GYN Residency Program was approved by ACGME to expand training from 3 to up to 4 residents in each year of the four-year program, preparing learners for sub-specialty training, hospital-based or private practice. The OB/GYN clerkship teaches 80 medical students each year through rotations and various electives, including a new OB/GYN Sub-Internship, all of which provide a comprehensive, hands-on experience.
Academic Medicine
Whether in the hospital or out-patient clinic, our patients benefit from the close attention and team approach that comes with academic medicine. The OB/GYN physician faculty, residents and students practice within two regional hospitals that serve a diverse urban and rural patient base population of about 2.5 million people across central Illinois, as well as within two outpatient clinics under a Federally Qualified Health Center that provides care to the medically underserved. Some of our physician faculty also provide an array of patient care through their private practice clinics, also with the FQHC.
A Medical Community
The OB/GYN academic offices are connected to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center, a quaternary care hospital with a Level I Trauma Center, one of the most comprehensive neuroscience centers in the Midwest, and the largest children’s hospital in downstate Illinois. Faculty, residents and students have access to teach and train at Jump Simulation, a world-class, state-of-the-art medical simulation facility, and ambulatory care is provided within Heartland Health Services, an FQHC.
