The UICOMP Department of Surgery has a long tradition of excellence in clinical care and teaching. Our education program includes a General Surgery Residency Program now comprised of four categorical residents per year. The program received an increase in complement to start the 2014/15 academic year. This five year program trains and prepares residents for General Practice Services as well as Fellowships. The department also manages the Surgical Clerkship in the training of medical students.

The Interim Chair of the department is J. Stephen Marshall, M.D. and the Vice-Chair is James R. DeBord, M.D. The department consists of seventeen sections dedicated to providing the highest quality healthcare and training.
