The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) will host a free training to show community members how to stop bleeding in an emergency situation. “Stop the Bleed” training is part of a nationwide campaign by the American College of Surgeons to raise awareness about preventing death from blood loss in emergency situations. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes. This means the public can be a vital part of saving lives when emergency responders are on their way.

The training will be held Wednesday, July 24, 1 – 2:30 pm, at the College of Medicine, 1 Illini Drive, Peoria. The session is free, but space is limited and pre-registration is required by contacting: Michelle DeSutter at (309) 671-8549 or [email protected].

Offered by the UICOMP Department of Surgery, this training is available to schools, churches and other community organizations free of charge. To schedule a training for your group, contact DeSutter. For more information on the nationwide initiative, visit www.bleedingcontrol.org.
