Getting Started

Step 1

Complete an Experimental Design and Planning Request Form. A Research Services team member will contact you to schedule your initial meeting.

Step 2

Complete CITI at www.citiprogram.org.

This is free to learners who affiliate with UICOMP or OSF. If you register as an Independent Learner or need a CME credit, there will be a charge.

Peoria IRB Requirements

Biomedical Course for UICOMP
Conflict of Interest Stage 1 Course
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Course

OSF Requirements

Human Subject Research (HSR) Course
Conflict of Interest Stage 1 Course
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Course

If you are going to be engaged in Human Subject Research that will be reviewed by the Peoria IRB, the PIRB requires a current copy of your CV/resume with the first page signed and dated by you.

If your study is funded by the NIH or is a clinical trial, you will also need to complete the Good Clinical Practices (GCP) Course. The Peoria IRB prefers the (ICH Focus) but will also accept (US FDA Focus).

The Peoria IRB accepts both the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria or OSF HealthCare System CITI completion reports. You only have to complete 1 set of requirements; not both.

Step 3

Register in IRBNet at www.irbnet.org.

There is “New User Registration” in the upper right corner just below the login boxes. Please affiliate with the appropriate institution. Please register for your affiliation as the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria; you may also register for “additional affiliations” (such as OSF Healthcare System or Methodist Medical Center).

Once registered in IRBNet – a new user will receive an email that will include a link to activate the registration in the body of the email. The new user will need to activate the registration before accessing IRBNet.

Step 4

Obtain approval from your Department Head, GME, or Dean’s Office. If you are a student, you must also have a mentor. Research Services may be able to help you with that.

Step 5

Will you be doing research at OSF HealthCare System or using their data? After your initial consultation with Research Services, Research Services will help schedule a meeting with OSF Data Analytics. Then after a meeting with OSF Data Analytics, submit your proposal to OSF and obtain OSF Approval before submitting to the Peoria IRB. If no, skip to IRBNet New Project Submission Instructions.

OSF forms may be found at https://www.osfhealthcare.org/research/investigators-coordinators/starting-new-research/. Email form directly to [email protected].

Contact information for the OSF Research Intake Coordinator may also help answer any questions you may have regarding the OSF process:
