Support for UICOMP Research
Research Services is dedicated to supporting the research activities at the College of Medicine in Peoria. Whether you are a student looking for a mentor, a resident designing a study, a faculty member looking for funding, or you just need some help with statistical analysis, we are here to help. We also maintain a central list of shared laboratory equipment for our basic scientists, and help interfacing with vendors on maintenance and service.

How do I determine who should be an author on my study?
An individual should be an author on the study if they have made a significant contribution to the research, helped with the writing of the paper (or abstract), and have given their approval on the final product. The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors has a clear definition of what a significant contribution entails.

How do I choose where to send my manuscript?
Think about the target audience and where similar studies have been published. The library has put out an excellent guide on choosing a journal.

Should a statistician be on my IRB protocol?
If you are planning on sharing identifiable data (medical or non-medical) with your statistician, then the statistician should be on your IRB protocol.

How do I find a funding opportunity?
UIC has access to PIVOT, which is a great resource for funding grants. If you do not have time, or need help searching, contact Research Services, and we can help you.

Does UIC have any internal funding opportunities for researchers?
Yes, UIC has some funding opportunities. The current ones are shown here, and it is a good idea to check back for updates. Additionally, the Center for Clinical and Translational Science awards pilot grants to help researchers gather pilot data to help apply for larger awards.
