Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Mission Statement

The Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria welcomes trainees, staff, healthcare workers, patients, and families from all ethnic, spiritual, and racial backgrounds. We recognize the impact that structural racism continues to play in our healthcare system, and we pledge to speak up, educate with a purpose, and act with intention to be a force for positive change, with the goal of uprooting and dismantling the factors that perpetuate racism. We will not be silent, and we add our voice, our actions, and our support for our colleagues, trainees, fellow healthcare workers and patients/families of color nationwide and here at UICOMP, in our community and in our workplace. We actively embrace and seek to foster a diverse and inclusive community by condemning racism. We recognize that diversity is essential to a healthy, productive, and highly functioning workplace and learning environment. We recognize that it is through diversity that we produce the best possible patient outcomes, and as well as the most well-rounded pediatric intensivists ready to serve any population at graduation. We believe we can truly be the force for the change we want and need to see.
