Welcome from our Program Director

Dr. Matthew Mischler
Program Director
Hello! Thank you for your interest in Med-Peds, and thank you for visiting our program website! We are excited for you, as you are about to take the next step in your career, and we are very happy you are considering Med-Peds for your residency. In this field, you will be joining a wonderful group of physicians with diverse backgrounds and interests who care for patients and their families in many different ways and in many different settings.
The mission of our program is to train you to be able to care for adults and children in whatever way you feel called to serve patients and their families. We train compassionate, evidence-based, caring physicians who are prepared to practice in any clinical environment. Our large group of clinical faculty practice Med-Peds hospital medicine, outpatient medicine, subspecialty, underserved urban care, rural medicine and global medicine, and our residents are able to learn from their experiences and expertise as they shape their future career. Our residency program is our family, and we strive to serve our community and our hospital in a way that creates real impact and change for those we serve and for the community in which we practice.
We are one of the oldest and most established Med-Peds programs in the country, taking our first residency class in 1981. With the longevity we have had as a program, we have established deep Med-Peds roots in our community and have very strong relationships with our Internal Medicine and Pediatric departments. Our program has its own unique voice, has a strong Med-Peds presence in the hospital and the medical community and has been successful in retaining many of our graduates to practice in outpatient, inpatient and subspecialty practice. We are focused on our residents’ wellbeing, and strive to create a learning climate that fosters and brings out the best in each of our residents. We offer a broad range of elective rotations to allow a resident to shape their training with an eye towards their career goals, with flexibility to adjust and create rotation experiences that speak to each individual resident.
Thank you for your interest in Med-Peds, and in our Med-Peds program. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any concerns or questions, and we look forward to meeting you on the interview trail!
Sincerely,
Matthew Mischler, MD, FAAP, FACP
