Components of this track provide additional immersion and education for UICOMP Med-Peds residents interested in health equity work. Participants develop skills and strategies that equip them for long-term work in underserved and marginalized populations.
- 2-week GRowLocal (Global, Rural, Local) Health Equity Elective at Jump Simulation sometime during the PGY2, PGY3 or PGY4 year
- Attending at least one educational conference related to Global, Rural, or Local (Urban/Community/Population) Health
- Completing at least one away rotation at a rural, international, local/urban population site, etc.
- Scholarly activity within the realm of Global, Rural or Local (Urban/Community/Population) Health
- Regular attendance at the GRowLocal Journal Club
Choice of Electives:
- Med-Peds Community Outpatient in a Rural Site- such as OSF in Escanaba, MI or Pontiac, IL
- Community Med-Peds (OSF Care-A-Van, shelter medicine, street medicine, Senior World, etc)
- GRowLocal Health Equity simulation elective at Jump (2 weeks in February)
- International Health (an international way rotation)
- Trauma
- Wound
- Reading or Research with a focus on Health Equity Work
Clinical Opportunities in Low-Resource Settings and/or Serving Marginalized Populations:
- OSF Care-A-Van (mobile medical unit) focusing on high risk zip codes in Peoria
- OSF Faith Community, including Street Medicine and Shelter Medicine, Promise Academy
- OSF Senior World
- OSF/CHOI Pediatric Population Health, including OSF School Nursing, OSF Pediatric Mobile Vaccination Work
- OSF Gardens of Hope
- UICOMP Med/Peds Residency Continuity Clinic Opportunities in 4th Year at Central IL Friends and Jolt Harm Reduction
- OSF Energy and Sustainability (in collaboration with CDC BRACE-IL)
- OSF Wound Clinic
- OSF Pain Clinic
- OSF Weight Management and Medical Exercise Clinics at the Riverplex
