Since its initial accreditation in 1955, the UICOMP Internal Medicine program has accumulated over 66 years of expertise in providing exceptional resident education.
Located at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center, our program offers exemplary training opportunities within a 616-bed tertiary referral center and a cutting-edge simulation center.
Each first-year class of the Internal Medicine Residency Program accepts 12 categorical residents.
As a resident, you will have the privilege of learning from seasoned clinicians who not only possess extensive practical patient care experience but are actively engaged in clinical practice. Our full-time faculty members are dedicated clinician-educators who prioritize clinical education within the context of delivering excellent patient care. They are committed to supporting your growth and development throughout your residency journey.

Applying to the Residency Heading link
The UICOMP Internal Medicine Residency Program will only accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applications will not be accepted through the mail, by e-mail, or by FAX. Please follow the directions provided on the ERAS web site in order to apply. Applications must be received by November 1 and should include:
- A dean’s letter (MSPE)
- Medical school transcripts
- USMLE transcripts (Step 2 CS is waived this year)
- Letters of reference (LOR) from 3 faculty members (preferred) or at minimum 1 chair letter/standard letter of evaluation and 1 letter of reference from a faculty member
Interviews
Interviews take place between Nov 1st-Jan 15th. Due to COVID-19 and in accordance with AAMC guidelines, we will conduct all interviews and virtual visits online.
International Applicants
U.S. clinical experience does strengthen an application, but it is not required. However all applicants should have recent clinical experience with primary patient responsibility. Observerships alone do not suffice. Your letters of reference do not need to be from an American source.
We require applicants to have graduated medical school within previous 5 years or finished residency training within the last 2 years.
Applicants must be ECFMG certified by June 1.
Please note we sponsor both H-1B and J-1 visas (for categorical program). H-1B sponsorship requires the applicant have passed their USMLE Step 3 exam by the date on which the program submits the NRMP rank list.
