OSF Community Hospice & OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home

OSF Community Hospice provides comprehensive care for hospice patients throughout their regions.  The Central Region, which covers seven counties near Peoria, is the primary location for teaching.   OSF Central Region Hospice typically cares for a census of 80 to 100 patients in homes and long-term care facilities throughout the region. Close to half of patients have oncology problems, with the remainder having a mix of pulmonary, cardiovascular, nephrologic and neurological disease.

OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home is a beautiful new 16 bed Inpatient Hospice facility in Peoria, Illinois.  The hospice home serves patients who are suffering from distressing symptoms that cannot be effectively or feasibly managed in their own home or a long term care facility.  Due to the high level of subspecialty services at our major referring hospital, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, very complex cases are routinely cared for at the Owens Hospice Home, making it an ideal teaching facility. Two physicians, representing 1.5 FTE’s are present at the Hospice Home during the week, and two-four other physicians assist with weekend coverage. The physicians see each General Inpatient on a daily basis.

Outpatient Palliative Care Clinic

The OSF Outpatient Palliative Care Clinic is a one-half day a week longitudinal ambulatory experience for the fellows. It provides continuity of care and fosters the development of therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
