Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement
The UIC HPM program selects fellows irrespective of gender, age, culture, race, religion, disabilities, national origin, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation. We accept applications from all applicants based on HPM fellowship ACGME eligibility criteria.
Every application is reviewed and assessed. A structured, uniform interview process is undertaken in which the current fellows, the coordinator, and the faculty participate, in addition to the program director.
To promote equity and flexibility, we entertain the option of an out-of-cycle fellowship start date (if requested). We have recruited fellows from different ethnic, gender, and cultural backgrounds.
The fellows can voice their opinions during different meetings; their viewpoint is specifically elicited. In addition, the PD and faculty engage in “active listening” to the fellows’ concerns and cultivate empathy. Hence, fellows are treated with respect in an inclusive environment.
In addition, we provide didactics on unconscious/ implicit bias and understanding the blind spots and prejudices. Finally, HPM fellows and faculty have various options to pursue projects of their interest.
