The first year of the Physician Innovator Program focuses on learning how to recognize meaningful healthcare needs and develop an innovation project.
Participants learn to:
- Observe healthcare systems
- Conduct needs assessments
- Interview stakeholders
- Apply systems thinking
- Practice human-centered design
- Develop and refine innovation concepts

PI-2
Innovation Capstone
Typically PGY-3
Participants translate their approved innovation proposal into a scholarly, operational, educational, or entrepreneurial outcome.
The capstone is individualized and supported through faculty mentorship.

PI Graduate
Physician Innovator
Upon successful completion of the program, participants are recognized as Physician Innovator Graduates and join the Physician Innovator Collaborative Alumni Network.
Graduates become mentors, faculty collaborators, and ambassadors for innovation within their organizations.
