Integrated Interventional/Diagnostic Radiology Residency
Introduction
The Integrated Interventional/Diagnostic Radiology Residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) and OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center (OSF) offers comprehensive training in every aspect of interventional radiology within a supportive, collaborative environment.
The program is entirely conducted at the OSF St Francis Medical Center, a 642-bed adult hospital that serves as the primary tertiary hospital for a service area of over one million patients. The attached 132-bed Children’s Hospital of Illinois is the only dedicated downstate children’s hospital which completes the clinical exposure our residents need for a comprehensive education in Interventional Radiology.
Residents gain exposure to a broad spectrum of pathology, with access to advanced facilities including four state-of-the-art angiography suites, a hybrid OR, dedicated procedural CT and ultrasound rooms. Training emphasizes excellence in diagnostic imaging, procedural skill and clinical care encompassing the full spectrum of vascular interventional radiology. Residents will participate in daily inpatient consults and rounds, daily outpatient clinics (vascular, oncology/hepatobiliary, and rural outreach), and at least one intensive care rotation per year.
The Interventional Radiology division provides early hands-on experience for our trainees across the entire spectrum of pathology, including aortic disease, peripheral vascular disease, DVT/PE intervention, venous reconstruction and more routine hospital-based procedures such as venous access, fluid drainage and portal hypertension. We have a robust interventional oncology practice, bolstered by OSF’s new Cancer Institute, with increasing volumes of TACE, Y90 and ablations. As an example, a recent PGY-6 Independent Interventional Radiology resident performed over 300 lower extremity revascularization procedures in their final year of training alone, in addition to their other caseload.
In summary, the UICOMP Integrated Interventional Radiology Residency will offer outstanding clinical training in all aspects of modern clinical interventional radiology in a supportive, collaborative environment. The graduates will be well equipped to practice interventional radiology at a high level in any environment.
One resident will be accepted annually at the PGY-1 level via our integrated transitional year program at UICOMP. We look forward to matriculating our first interns for the 2026-2027 academic year.
