Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) Curriculum

Dr. Rishabh Singh is awarded the Mary Draeger Schultz Patient Safety Award in 2024. This scholarship award is given to a resident that exemplifies patient safety in his/her daily work and embraces the culture of safety.
Introduction
Through our longitudinal QIPS curriculum, we aim to equip our residents with a systems thinking framework and the skills to effect safer, more efficient patient care.
Our curriculum includes:
- 1st year: Intro to QIPS principles through didactics, modules, and team activities
- 2nd year: Mentored group QI project
- Prior topics include: prevention of CAUTI and CLABSI, development of a C. difficile testing algorithm, pneumonia management best practices
- Department-wide Morbidity & Mortality conferences
- Additional opportunities to participate in:
- Department of Medicine Advisory Committee for Peer Review
- Hospital-wide Root Cause Analyses, Performance Improvement, and other QIPS projects
