Procedural Skills Training

Internal Medicine residents participate in procedural skills training

We foster residents’ development of strong procedural skills under the individual guidance of experienced teaching faculty. All second-year residents rotate with our procedure teaching service, UCAPS (University Consult and Procedure Service), and can opt to take additional procedural electives.

Residents will have the opportunity to perform:

  • Paracentesis
  • Thoracentesis
  • Vascular access: central lines, hemodialysis lines, midlines, PICC
  • Arterial lines
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Arthrocentesis (shoulder, knee, wrist, ankle)
  • Skin biopsies
