Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS)

Internal Medicine residents perform a Point-of-Care Ultrasound

POCUS expertise is an increasingly valued skill set for the practice of Internal Medicine. Bedside ultrasound is a safe, convenient tool to complement the physical exam and expedite clinical decision-making. We offer an uncommonly robust POCUS training program with individual hands-on instruction guided by acclaimed teaching faculty.

  • Introduction to POCUS: Learn POCUS fundamentals, image acquisition techniques, and US-guided procedures during procedure service rotation (all residents)
  • POCUS elective: Additional mentorship and portfolio building (2-week optional elective)
  • Longitudinal “SonoSeries” curriculum: bimonthly hands-on POCUS didactics with standardized patients
  • Learn from acclaimed POCUS instructors
    • Drs. Annia Martial and Peter Phan are authors of POCUS curricular modules for the American College of Physicians and teach POCUS at the national level
