Dr. Timothy Bruce is Professor and Associate Chair of the Department. A summa cum laude graduate of the Honors Program at Indiana State University, Dr. Bruce received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The University at Albany-State University of New York under the mentorship of Dr. David Barlow. He completed his residency training as chief resident at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center under director emeritus Dr. Robert Klepac.
Dr. Bruce supports the clinical, educational, and scholarship missions of the college in many ways. He is Associate Chair, Director of Medical Student Education, and Director of the Psychiatry Residency Scholarship Program for the department. His scholarly contributions include over 30 books and training manuals, professional journal articles, book chapters, encyclopedia articles, and other works. His areas of interests include education, administration, and the evidence-based practice of clinical psychology. In addition to maintaining his own clinical practice, Dr. Bruce provides classroom instruction and supervises the psychotherapy training of residents. Recognized for his work in academic administration as well as classroom and clinical teaching, Dr. Bruce has received over 50 awards for his efforts in these areas to date including the UICOMP Faculty of the Year Award in 2016.
As part of his work to disseminate evidence-based practices, Dr. Bruce serves as contributing editor and co-author of Dr. Arthur Jongsma’s most-used PracticePlanners© Series, empirically informing it with results from the psychotherapy outcome literature. He recently coauthored a DVD-based training series with Dr. Jongsma entitled, “Evidence-based Psychotherapy Treatment Planning,” as well as the most recent editions of the Adult, Adolescent, Child, and Addiction Treatment Planners published by John Wiley and Sons. In his off-time Dr. Bruce enjoys spending time with his family, music, painting, gardening, sports, and DIY projects planned and unplanned.
