Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship

This unique training opportunity newly established in the 2021-22 academic year provides fellows with advanced clinical experience, gives them the flexibility to pursue their areas of interest, and allows them to gain important supervisory and teaching experience.

Mission

The goal of this postdoctoral fellowship position is to provide a unique and relevant practitioner-scholar training experience in clinical child, adult, and pediatric psychology.

Core Competencies

Our Graduates will be able to demonstrate critical skills and abilities, including:

  • Assessments of cognitive, diagnostic, and emotional/behavioral functioning
  • Individual psychotherapy and behavioral health interventions to individuals of all ages who have a wide range of psychiatric and medical illnesses including:
    • Major depressive disorder
    • Autism spectrum disorder
    • Anxiety
    • Diabetes
    • Childhood Obesity
    • Functional Constipation
    • ADHD and other neurodevelopmental disorders
    • Functional abdominal pain
    • Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder
    • Personality Disorders
    • Dementia

Training Information

Our 1-year fellowship includes a mix of clinical and academic service activities, including:

  • Providing care to patients with medical diagnoses, psychiatric diagnoses and psychosocial issues in outpatient settings
  • Supervising and teaching medical students, pediatric residents and psychiatry residents
  • Fellows in this postdoctoral training program are based at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria.

Engaging in relevant research activities is encouraged but isn’t a primary component of the program. To ensure a well-rounded experience, fellows participate alongside other learners in advanced didactics offered in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology, Pediatrics, and Medicine-Pediatrics. Training is also provided in other important professional skills including interdisciplinary practice and advocacy. Our fellows will receive supervision toward licensure in the state of Illinois.

Applicant Information

Eligibility

  • U.S. citizen or eligible for and pursuing U.S. citizenship
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology or related degree from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association that includes completion of an internship accredited by the American Psychological Association
  • All degree requirements, including dissertation defense, must be completed prior to beginning the fellowship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience or knowledge base in relevant areas of adult psychology, child and adolescent psychology, cognitive psychology, and health psychology, and empirically supported interventions
  • Work experience/formal clinical training in medical/hospital settings
  • Demonstrated ability to provide psychological assessment and interventions with individuals and families of individuals with a various psychiatric and medical disorders
