Inpatient Services

The Department of Psychiatry has collaborated with UnityPoint Health – Methodist to provide inpatient psychiatry services for 44 adult beds. We provide evaluation and treatment of a broad range of psychiatric disorders. We follow an interdisciplinary approach that integrates psychiatric, psychological, nursing, therapy, social work and case management services to deliver exceptional patient care. Located on the sixth and eighth floors of Methodist Hospital the 44-bed Inpatient Adult Psychiatry Units and 20-bed Child and Adolescent Unit provide secure, modern and comfortable environments for patients and families. Our treatment programs are structured to maintain the safety, dignity and confidentiality of patients.

Because every patient’s needs are unique, we have implemented specialization of our inpatient units. Those seeking mental health care deserve more than a “one-size-fits-all” approach so our inpatients units have been divided into four specialty areas: acute, mood and anxiety, geriatric, and general.

Inpatient Psychiatry serves as the cornerstone for student and resident exposure to psychiatric medicine. Teaching and supervision on the inpatient units is provided by University of Illinois faculty psychiatrists. The clinical experience encompasses acute and chronic psychiatric care with the goal to transition patients to our partial hospitalization program or outpatient setting.
