Health Sciences Education
Health Sciences Education (HSE) facilitates the development of an effective and efficient Phase 1 and enhances our ability to train exceptional physicians.
Chaired by Dr. Meenakshy Aiyer, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, this department oversees the foundational course work for all medical students on the Peoria campus. It combines professors across many basic science fields, including biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, cell biology, and microbiology, alongside teaching-focused doctors who provide direct patient care.
This department’s main research focus is educational scholarship and simulation. As the health care delivery system is changing, technology plays and increasing role in medical education. Simulation is used to make students into effective communicators as well as efficient members of and interdisciplinary team. This provides many opportunities for educational scholarship — particularly how our educational programs impact the actual delivery of patient care.
