Biographical Info

Dr. McIntyre was born and raised in Pekin, Illinois. He did his undergraduate work at Taylor University, with a major in psychology, and then migrated to California, as a member of the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, working in a military psychiatry clinic, he completed his Master’s degree in psychology at California State University in Sacramento. Following his discharge from the Air Force, he continued to work in the mental health field, and completed his doctorate in Counseling and Applied Psychology at the University of San Francisco. He relocated once again to central Illinois in the mid-1980’s and worked in established medical practices, providing consultation in behavioral and sexual medicine areas, before moving to the full-time faculty with the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria.

Research

The University is connected to a robust and growing research community. As co-chairman of the Institutional Review Boards, Dr. McIntyre is involved with oversight and protection of human subjects in research, a position he has held since December of 2006.

Psychology

Dr. McIntyre is credentialed at OSF and UnityPoint Health – Methodist hospitals, and has served on a variety of boards and task forces. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Illinois Psychological Association, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy, the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health, the International Society of Sexual Medicine, and the organization for Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research.

Family Medicine and OB/GYN

Dr. McIntyre’s area of special interest in the Family and Community Medicine Department is teaching and providing clinical instruction in the integration of behavioral medicine into primary care. His home department is Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, and he is also on the faculty of OB/GYN. In each of those settings, he also enjoys working with residents and medical students.

Personal Life

Dr. McIntyre and his wife, Rebecca, live in Pekin. They have three grown daughters. Brian enjoys listening to and playing music, stock car racing, and has been in a gourmet cooking club for over 29 years. He also is very involved in teaching and other activities in the church that he and his wife attend.

My favorite part of being a faculty member here is having the chance to witness residents see and integrate the socio-behavioral aspects of a patient’s situation into the plan for their overall healthcare.
