Emergency Medicine in Peoria is both fast-paced and broad-based, serving a diverse patient population with unique pathology and high acuity. Our residency program emphasizes a comprehensive learning environment that is focused upon your training and clinical experiences. We are particularly strong in pre-hospital medicine, pediatrics, and high-fidelity simulation.
From level-one trauma care, Life Flight involvement, and multiple critical care experiences, emergency medicine at UICOMP is both exciting and challenging. We aim to develop physicians that emphasize compassionate patient-centered care and are the future leaders of our specialty.
While training in emergency medicine may seem challenging, at UICOMP you become one of our EM family, and team members are always there with help and mentorship.

Our three-year ACGME-Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited program includes formal didactics, conferences, simulation, and clinical rotations. Our goal is to train emergency physicians who will excel in every environment, and we do this by providing significant exposure to different patient populations and demographics.
We accept applications for residency positions through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The application deadline is December 31, with interview invitations typically extended from October – December.

Step 1: The Application
Application checklist
- Official medical school transcripts
- Official test transcripts for all applicable examinations (Must have scores from the USMLE Step 1 & 2 exam or the COMLEX Level 1 & 2 exam)
- MSPE (Medical Student Performance Evaluation)
- Three letters of recommendation, with one being a SLOE
- Current CV/Resume
- Personal Statement
Completed ERAS Application
Our institution does sponsor H1-B or J-1 visa for qualified applicants.

Step 2: The Interview
Selected candidates will be invited to interview virtually. We conduct interviews on Tuesdays & Wednesdays beginning in late October through January.

We do not use one single data point to evaluate our applicants; applications are holistically evaluated and reviewed on ability, aptitude, academic credentials, and extra-curricular undertakings.

Step 3: The Match
