Tactical Medicine
Tactical medicine is a growing subspecialty of emergency medicine as emergency physicians and other rescue personnel are increasingly sought out to provide medical direction for law enforcement agencies and to serve on tactical law enforcement teams.
As a resident at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, you will have the opportunity to take our TEMS elective (tactical EMS) which includes firearm safety, weapon handling in the ambulance or emergency room (concealed carry patients, suspects, etc), criminal and terrorist threat recognition and counter-measures and familiarity with ballistics.
Offering tactical medicine during residency training provides much-needed knowledge and skill sets that allow emergency physicians to perform their work more safely, provide better patient care and keep their communities safe.
For more information on tactical medicine and participating with Peoria’s tactical law enforcement team during residency, please contact Dr. John Wipfler ([email protected]).
