Dr. Veeravalli is a pharmacologist and neuroscientist at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP). He is currently the Associate Professor in the Department of Cancer Biology and Pharmacology. Also, he is Dr. John and Beverly Henderson Professor in Neuroscience Research. In addition, he has several faculty and affiliate appointments in other departments, including Pediatrics, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Biomedical Sciences, and Health Sciences Education. Dr. Veeravalli received his M.Pharm and Ph.D. degrees from Andhra University in 2000 and 2005. He worked as a scientist in a research-based pharmaceutical company from 2003-2007 and involved in the preclinical safety evaluation of generic drugs and new chemical entities. Dr. Veeravalli was a UICOMP postdoctoral fellow from 2007-2010. He has been a UICOMP faculty since 2010, and currently teaches Pharmacology to medical students. Dr. Veeravalli’s current research is funded by NIH.
Lab
The Veeravalli lab studies the molecular and cellular mechanisms of post-stroke brain damage and studies the efficacy of novel treatments to attenuate infarct size and inflammation, curtail blood-brain barrier disruption, preserve neurological function, and promote recovery in rodent models of ischemic stroke.
