My academic and research training has provided me with a comprehensive and diverse background in a wide variety of scientific disciplines including cancer biology, epigenetics, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, biophysics, and immunology. These distinct experiences have contributed to my overall desire to become an independent research investigator. Specifically, I found my true passion to be in the area of brain tumor research (Medulloblastoma and Glioblastoma) where I worked on new avenues investigating the potential therapeutic benefits of molecular targeted therapy in combination with radiation and chemotherapy. My research efforts in cancer biology are aimed to understand the mechanisms utilized by cancer to initiate tumor proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis and metastasis. The goals of my current research are 1) to target the immune checkpoints in the tumor microenvironment and 2) to target the epigenetic histone modifiers in medulloblastoma tumor growth and progression.
